Minister for Food and Agriculture Eric Opoku visited the Black Challenge training session at the University of Ghana and announced a GH¢50,000 donation to the national amputee football team. The funding comes after a GH¢100,000 contribution from dancehall artiste Stonebwoy, bringing total support to GH¢150,000.

Opoku also pledged a poultry enterprise package for the eight Ghana‑based players, including battery cages, laying birds, feed and technical expertise. Deputy Minister John Dumelo will coordinate the support once the players return from the 2026 World Amputee Football Federation World Cup in Mexico.

“You are going to hold the flag of Ghana, and our presence here indicates that the whole nation is behind you,” Opoku told the players, urging them to compete with confidence and reminding them they are “stronger than you know.”

The ministry’s plan aligns with the Nkoko Nketenkete poultry programme under the Feed Ghana initiative, aiming to boost food security and household incomes. By linking sport and agriculture, the government hopes to give athletes a viable post‑competition livelihood.

After the World Cup, the eight players will be invited to join the programme, receiving cages, birds, feed and ongoing technical support to establish poultry farms. The initiative could set a precedent for other para athletes to enter agribusiness.

Ghana will face Angola, Colombia and Iraq in Group D of the World Cup, scheduled for 13–22 November in San Juan de los Lagos, Mexico. Opoku’s announcement offers both national backing and a pathway to economic independence for the team.
