Former Premier League footballer Jermaine Pennant was attacked by a German Shepherd while walking his two dogs in north London last week. The 43‑year‑old said the dog latched onto his leg and refused to let go as he tried to protect his own dog, King.
King intervened, fighting off the attacking dog and preventing “what could’ve been a horrendous situation,” Pennant told the Sun. The incident left Pennant with four bite wounds on his right leg, requiring more than 50 stitches and hospital treatment.
King emerged unhurt, only suffering a minor nip on his leg. Pennant declined to report the attack to police and has not identified the German Shepherd.
The former Liverpool and Stoke City winger, now a Talksport pundit, posted a photo on Instagram of himself with a bandage on his leg beside King on a sofa, thanking his partner Mimmi Montgomery for looking after them both.
Pennant’s 19‑year professional career saw him make 231 Premier League appearances before retiring in 2018. He was once the most expensive trainee in English football, joining Arsenal from Notts County for £2.5 million at age 15.
