Aewura Adjoa, known as Aewura Arts, revealed the hardships she faced when launching her career as a pencil artist. She said that early on, she did not require deposits from clients, leading many to commission works, pay nothing, and then disappear.
She described the frustration of completing and framing pieces only to find clients unresponsive. “I would call them, but they never answered,” she explained during an interview on The Career Trail program on Joy Learning TV and Joy News.
Beyond payment issues, the artist highlighted the challenge of sourcing quality art supplies locally. “The materials readily available here were often basic and did not always produce the quality I wanted,” she said. She added that she had to turn to international platforms such as Amazon to find better pencils and paper.
Drawing from her experience, Aewura Arts advises up‑and‑coming artists to protect themselves by asking for at least a 50 % deposit before starting a piece. She urged new talent not to be discouraged by early setbacks, emphasizing the need to learn, adapt and find practical ways to sustain their work.
