The Accra Turf Club announced it will stage a demonstration on Thursday, September 10, to protest what it calls government inaction after the demolition of its racecourse at Borteyman.
According to the club, armed men accompanied by police officers and heavy‑duty machinery entered the site on August 22 and razed several structures, including about 100 horse stables, offices and other facilities.
Club officials say horses were forcibly removed and jockeys ejected from their accommodation. They have called on President John Dramani Mahama and other officials to intervene and restore the club’s access to the property, which they claim is secured by a relocation agreement with the government.
A police investigation has been launched, and a police officer allegedly linked to the demolition has been interdicted pending inquiry. However, the club reports it has yet to see the action it expects from the government.
The Thursday march aims to pressure authorities to address the concerns surrounding the Accra Race Course and to conduct a full investigation into the demolition.
