Former Big Brother Naija housemate Tochi Okechukwu used his Instagram platform to caution young women about the risks of marrying and becoming a mother too soon. In a post dated today, the Nollywood actor wrote that early marriage often forces girls to abandon their dreams and ambitions.
Tochi explained that when a young woman is pushed into marriage and motherhood before she has had a chance to discover who she is and what she can achieve, her aspirations typically have to take a back seat. He warned that a woman’s identity and ambitions could become eclipsed by the roles of wife and mother.
He added that a girl who might have grown up to become a doctor, a successful businesswoman, or a leader could end up having her entire life reduced to being known as ‘the wife of Chima Solar Enterprise.’ While acknowledging that marriage is a positive institution, Tochi stressed that timing matters, urging girls to finish school, learn skills, and become independent before getting married.
