Blay Nyamekye Armah, Member of Parliament for Sekondi, has distributed 330,000 exercise books to pupils in basic schools across the constituency. Each child received 20 books, a move valued at about GH¢700,000.
The initiative follows the MP’s recent provision of more than GH¢500,000 worth of support to senior high school freshers, which included exercise books, trunks, buckets and other essential items.
Addressing concerns about sustainability, the MP explained that a newly established printing press allows him to produce the books at a lower cost, making the programme more viable. He added that the press is also creating employment opportunities for residents.
He said the intervention was designed to ease the financial pressure on parents while ensuring children have the resources needed to learn, develop skills and prepare for the future.
Teachers who received the books expressed appreciation, noting the support would aid teaching and reduce costs for families.
The MP also announced plans to provide school uniforms to pupils by 2028 as part of a broader education support programme.
