A weather alert issued by the Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMA) has warned residents in the north‑eastern parts of Ghana of an approaching moderate to heavy rainstorm, with thunderstorms, heavy rain and gusty winds expected across several regions.
The storm is set to hit the Upper East, North East and Northern regions first, with rainfall likely to begin within the next hour. Later in the day it is forecast to move westward, bringing rain to the Upper West and Savannah regions.
Rainfall intensity will vary along the path, with some areas likely to experience thunderstorms and strong winds. Residents in the affected areas have been advised to plan morning activities around the expected timing of the storm and to allow extra time for travel.
Motorists have been urged to exercise caution on the roads, with the GMA advising drivers to reduce speed, use headlights and avoid crossing flooded roads or low‑lying bridges.
The advisory also targets farmers, market traders and outdoor workers, who should secure loose materials, farm produce and equipment that could be damaged or displaced by strong winds.
Communities at risk of flooding, particularly those near Dambai and along the Oti River, have been urged to remain alert and monitor further updates. The GMA has urged the public to stay informed through official weather updates.
