Police have arrested four men suspected of executing a violent gunpoint robbery targeting a gold dealer in Wassa Akropong, located in the Tarkwa area of the Western Region.
The suspects, identified as Kwabena Amuah, 25 (alias "IK"); Mohammed Nasir, 28 (alias "Mallam"); Samuel Agyei, 24 (alias "Okese 1"); and Kofi Gyasi, 26 (alias "Brefo") were apprehended during intelligence-led operations conducted across Duaso and Domeabra on July 21 and 22, 2026.
Ambush and Stolen Valuables
According to an official statement issued by the Police Public Affairs Unit on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, the arrests follow months of investigation into an ambush reported on March 11, 2026.
The complainant, gold dealer Oris Oduro, reported that he closed his gold-buying business at Tamakloe around 11:00 p.m. and hired a commercial motorcycle (okada) to transport him to his residence in Wassa Akropong.
En route, armed men intercepted the motorcycle and held Oduro and the rider at gunpoint before fleeing into the night.
The robbers made off with a substantial haul, including:
Cash: GH¢24,000 in physical currency.
Gold Stash: Seven pounds and six matches of raw gold valued at GH¢94,530.
Mobile Devices: An iPhone XR and a Tecno Spark 12 smartphone.
Remanded into Custody as Manhunt Continues
Following their apprehension, all four suspects were processed and arraigned before the Wassa Akropong District Court. The court remanded the accused into police custody to facilitate ongoing criminal proceedings and assist investigators.
Police confirmed that a fifth suspect, identified only by the alias "Agogo," evaded capture during the sweep and remains at large. Law enforcement authorities have appealed to the public for information regarding Agogo's whereabouts to assist in his arrest.
