Dr Thomas Anaba, the Member of Parliament for Garu, has publicly challenged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Minority in Parliament to support efforts to recover public funds that he says were misappropriated during the previous administration. He argues that the recovered money could help lift salaries for public sector workers.
Speaking on Eyewitness News on Friday, October 30, 2026, Anaba questioned why the Minority was criticising the 9% salary increase negotiated for public sector workers for 2027 instead of backing initiatives to hold those accused of misappropriating state funds accountable. “What the minority should be concerned about now is to find those who squandered our monies, and we are searching for them. We want them to come back to the country and provide those monies so that government can pay workers better,” he said.
He added, “I have not seen the minority turn anywhere to support government and even call on judges to fast-track all those who have been alleged to have misappropriated government funds… Why is it that they are not interested in us recovering the money so that we can pay the workers well, but they are interested in inciting workers against government?”
Anaba’s remarks come amid a dispute between the government and the Minority over the 9% salary increase agreed for public sector workers in 2027. The Minority has described the increment as inadequate, citing rising living costs and previous salary adjustments. The Garu MP accused the NPP of contributing to the country’s economic difficulties through what he described as financial mismanagement during its administration.
He also urged former administration officials facing allegations of financial wrongdoing to return to Ghana and answer questions about their stewardship of public funds.
Moving forward, the MP expects the NPP Minority to shift its focus from criticism to concrete action in recovering the alleged misappropriated funds, which he believes would directly benefit public sector employees.
