NPP Court Order: Lawyers Urge EC to Halt Manhyia North Elections

Three lawyers representing plaintiffs in a dispute over the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) internal elections in Manhyia North have written to the Electoral Commission (EC) asking it not to supervise any polls in the area, citing a court order that bars the party from conducting constituency officer elections and handling data entry for the Constituency Executives Album.

The letter, dated 6 November 2026 and addressed to the EC’s Ashanti Regional Head in Kumasi, comes after the High Court in Kumasi issued an order on 2 July 2026, by Justice Frederick Tetteh, restraining the defendants from carrying out the elections pending a substantive injunction application. The suit, Bernard Amoah and two others v. New Patriotic Party and four others, is pending before High Court 7 in Kumasi under suit number E13/146/26.

Lawyers said the NPP had reportedly intended to proceed with the elections despite the court order. They urged the EC to ensure that its officials do not supervise any such exercise, warning that any attempt to do so would amount to contempt of court.

The letter, signed by Abigail Osei, counsel for Bernard Amoah and two others, attached a copy of the July 2 order as evidence. Copies were also sent to NPP National Chairman John Boadu, General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, Ashanti Regional Chairman Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, the Manhyia North Divisional Police Commander and party and EC officials.

The lawyers seek the EC’s cooperation to respect the court’s order while the injunction application remains pending.
