Minister of State for Government Communications Felix Kwakye Ofosu said on Channel One Newsroom Thursday that no evidence has yet linked any government official or National Democratic Congress (NDC) member to investigations into cocaine trafficking through Ghana’s borders.
"You folks, as you speak, nobody has put forward any evidence of the involvement of any member of government or any member of the party," Ofosu told the programme, adding that speculation and rumour‑mongering should be avoided when there is no basis for it.
His remarks come after President John Dramani Mahama met with security chiefs following the seizure of nearly 3.9 tonnes of cocaine by French customs from a container shipped from Ghana. Ofosu clarified that none of the ten people currently in custody are government members.
He stressed that political affiliation would not shield anyone from prosecution if evidence proved involvement. "Even if a high‑ranking member of government or a member of the NDC was involved, it would mean they have committed a crime against the state of Ghana, that they have violated Ghanaian law, and therefore they will be taken through the same processes that anybody else who violates Ghanaian law will be taken through," he said.
Ofosu said the priority is to establish accountability for those involved and prevent further trafficking of narcotics through Ghana’s borders.
