The Christian Council of Ghana has set up a technical committee comprising representatives from various Christian groupings to determine the next steps for the stalled National Cathedral project.
Reverend Enoch Nii Narh Thompson, chairman of the Council, told reporters that the committee will have one month to devise a practical funding model and to make recommendations on the cathedral’s location and other key issues.
After a closed‑door meeting with the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, the Council said the committee’s recommendations would be presented to President John Mahama to guide the project’s future.
The Council also urged an expedited forensic audit of the project, arguing that the findings would help Christian leaders assess the situation and decide on appropriate actions.
The National Cathedral was announced in 2017 by then‑President Nana Akufo‑Addo as a national Christian worship and heritage centre, officially commissioned in 2018 and with groundbreaking in 2019. Funding and construction challenges have left the building incomplete, prompting calls for clarity on its financing and future.
What follows will be the committee’s report and any decisions taken by the President, which could finally set the stalled project on a clear path forward.
