On September 11, the Legal Green Association of the Ghana School of Law will hold its first Law Students’ Conference at the Ghana Shippers House in Ridge, Accra. The event, themed “Bridging Justice and Governance: The Role of Lawyers in Political Leadership,” will bring together LLB, Pre‑Bar and Professional Law School students, practicing lawyers and government officials to discuss law practice, the legislative process, legal ethics and youth participation in governance.
Festus Matey, the association’s leader, said the conference is timely amid recent reforms in Ghana’s legal education system and is needed to give students a national platform similar to the Bar conferences for lawyers. “It is therefore important we create a voice for law students on a national platform just as the Bar conferences are for lawyers,” he said.
Key attendees are expected to include Deputy Chief of Staff Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, Attorney General Dr Dominic Ayine, Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs Mahama Ayariga, and Member of Parliament for Madina Francis‑Xavier Sosu. The conference will also feature Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority Edudzi Kudzo Tameklo, Managing Director of Tema Oil Refinery Edmond Kombat, energy expert Lom Nuku Ahlijah and other legal practitioners.
Discussions will cover citizen participation in justice, the role of young people in political leadership and the intersection between legal practice and governance. The association will use the occasion to honour its founding fathers, past leaders, patrons and current leadership, and the event will precede the election of new leaders for the 2026/2027 academic year.
The initiative forms part of the association’s effort to give law students and young legal professionals a platform to articulate concerns and contribute to debates on legal education, justice and governance in Ghana.
