Accra will host the fifth edition of the Head of State Invitational Golf Tournament on Saturday, November 21, 2026, at the Achimota Golf Club. The event will feature 140 amateur golfers, including international competitors from Nigeria, Burundi and Kenya.
Launched on Wednesday, November 4, the tournament celebrates President John Dramani Mahama under the theme “Driving National Growth Through Leadership, Partnership and Golf.” The launch brought together sponsors, partners, club leadership and media representatives.
Francis Andoh, the tournament coordinator, emphasized that the event goes beyond sport. “Our commitment extends beyond the course. Through the Head of State Foundation, we seek to support community outreach and create opportunities for young people through golf. We invite our partners and participants to help turn this commitment into meaningful support for those who need it,” he said.
First National Bank heads the sponsorship, with BOST Energies as the Gold sponsor. Other supporters include Samsung Ghana, The Luckiest, Myla Homes, National Petroleum Authority, Danny List Foundation, Aphro Ghana, Coca-Cola Ghana, Guinness Ghana, Pasonia, La Villa Aphro, Happy Box, TGTS, Ember Coco, Sunlodge, JD’s Fresh Juice, The Palms by Eagles, Gevans Natural Minerals Water and Nguvu Mining Limited.
Mike Aggrey, Board of Trustees member of Achimota Golf Club and General Secretary of the African Golf Confederation, highlighted the tournament’s history and impact. “The idea being that it will meet away from the bureaucracy of the ministries and the Jubilee House to a place such as a golf course where you can have a rapport without all the difficulties associated with the office environment,” he said.
Aggrey recalled the 2018 event in Kumasi, noting that it attracted about 16 ministers of state and numerous industry leaders. “During that event, a lot of deals were struck because people were able to meet directly with ministers of state and put projects together and make proposals directly without going through secretariats,” he added.
Golf enthusiasts and business leaders alike look forward to the tournament, which promises to blend competitive play with networking opportunities for Ghana’s emerging leaders.
