The Ghana Statistical Service released data showing the country’s economy grew 6.0% in the second quarter of 2026. The figure masks stark differences across sectors, with Information and Communication soaring and fishing shrinking sharply.
Information and Communication posted a 30.9% year‑on‑year increase, the largest contribution to the economy’s expansion. Transport and Storage grew 14.9%, Forestry and Logging 10.7%, Manufacturing 6.6%, and Livestock 5.9%.
Conversely, Fishing fell 24.7%, Accommodation and Food Services declined 7.8%, and Public Administration, Defence and Education each contracted 4.7%. Real Estate saw a modest 2.6% drop.
Information and Communication alone accounted for 41.5% of total GDP growth, while crops contributed 13.8% and Transport and Storage 13.5%. Manufacturing added 11.4% and Vehicle Trade and Repair 6.2%.
The services sector generated 57.6% of GDP growth, underscoring the growing importance of technology, transport, and trade services.
Although the 6% growth is robust, the pace has eased from 6.6% in Q2 2025, and the uneven performance signals that benefits are not evenly spread across the economy.
