On Tuesday, September 15, the Ministry of Education called on parents, guardians and the public to report any individual demanding money for school placements under the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS). The appeal came from Hashmin Mohammed, Press Secretary to the Minister for Education, who appeared on the JoyNews News Desk programme.
Mohammed reiterated that placement decisions are based on merit and that no parent, guardian or student is required to pay the Ministry of Education, the Ghana Education Service (GES), Ghana Technical and Vocational Education and Training (Ghana TVET) or CSSPS officials for a placement.
He urged anyone who encounters a person demanding money to report the matter to the appropriate law enforcement agency, stressing that the Ministry cannot effectively investigate such claims without public cooperation and concrete evidence.
Mohammed acknowledged that allegations of payments for school placements continue to surface, but said the Ministry faces challenges when complainants do not provide evidence or cooperate with investigators. He called on the public to supply reliable information to help the Ministry demonstrate its commitment to a fair placement process.
Parents and guardians who encounter demands for payment during the placement exercise are therefore encouraged to report the incident rather than rely on unverified claims.
