Parents in the Binduri District of the Upper East Region have raised concerns after the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) could not account for the mathematics objective answer sheets of 165 2026 BECE candidates.
The missing papers involve students from six schools: Benguri Junior High School, Christian Academy, Yaligun Junior High School, Amazing Grace Junior High School, Good Friends International Junior High School and Gumyoko Junior High School.
Aruk Gabriel, an affected parent, said the delay was initially seen as a routine hiccup that would be resolved before the senior high school (SHS) placement process. However, after following up with authorities in Bolgatanga, he was informed that the answer sheets could not be found.
"Now, are they saying that our children should wait? Should they not go to school until they find the papers, mark them and release the results so that we know whether they will get placement? By then, it will be too late," Gabriel said.
He added that the issue affects 165 candidates and that parents are calling on the Ministry of Education and WAEC to intervene urgently so the matter is resolved before the placement process concludes.
WAEC has yet to release a statement on the whereabouts of the missing papers. The situation remains unresolved as the placement process has already commenced, raising fears that students may miss their opportunity to enroll in senior high schools on time.
