Police in Ashaiman arrested 32‑year‑old former convict Bright Atsu Kudiabor on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, after he was caught impersonating a soldier and extorting money from members of the public. The arrest took place at about 7:00 a.m. in an area known as “I Shall Return,” where Kudiabor was reportedly parading in a military camouflage uniform and demanding cash from passers‑by.

Initial apprehension was carried out by personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service with assistance from other individuals before the suspect was handed over to the Tema Regional Police Command. A search of the suspect’s belongings uncovered a military camouflage uniform, according to the police statement.

Kudiabor is currently in police custody and is cooperating with investigators. He is expected to be processed for court once the investigations are completed. The Tema Regional Police Command has urged the public to remain vigilant and report anyone who falsely presents themselves as a soldier or any other security agency member with the intent to deceive or extort money.

ASP Dede Dzakpasu, Head of Public Affairs, signed the police statement, warning that such incidents could repeat if the public does not remain alert.
