On Thursday, September 10, 2026, the Accra Regional Police Command shot dead a suspected armed robber during a gunfight at Galoway near Agbogbloshie. Police had been alerted that four armed men on two motorbikes were heading toward a Shell Filling Station for a planned robbery.
A team from the Accra Regional Police Intelligence and Professional Standards Directorate, supported by the Operational Unit, confronted the suspects at the Galoway Police Barrier. An exchange of gunfire ensued, resulting in the death of one suspect. The remaining three fled the scene on their motorbikes.
The deceased was found with an AK‑47 assault rifle, serial number 79‑HF‑3014, equipped with a double magazine holding 136 rounds of AK‑47 ammunition, and 50 rounds of 9mm ammunition. The suspect was taken to Police Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. His body is now at the Police Hospital Mortuary for identification and autopsy.
Police also seized two unregistered motorbikes—a Royal and an Apsonic—which are being kept as evidence alongside the firearm and ammunition.
“Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the remaining suspects and establish the full circumstances of the planned robbery operation,” the Accra Regional Police Command said. The command pledged to continue intelligence‑led operations to curb armed robbery and protect lives and property.
