Titus Glover, National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party, has appealed to chiefs in the Greater Accra Region to voice concerns for traders whose stalls were demolished on Friday, October 2, 2026, at La Pleasure Beach. The demolition was carried out by National Security operatives at the request of Labadi Beach Hotel, owned by the Social Security and National Insurance Trust.
Speaking to Sammie Wiafe on Citi Eyewitness News on Thursday, Mr Glover urged traditional authorities to engage President Kweku Agyeman‑Kweku and his appointees over the operation, insisting that chiefs must defend their people when decisions threaten livelihoods.
“The chiefs in Greater Accra must not be mute. They shouldn’t be wearing clothes and attending government functions and all that,” he said. “This is the time that we, the youth, want to see our chiefs speaking and defending us. They must speak to defend their people.”
Mr Glover highlighted that chiefs in other parts of the country are consulted before such actions, questioning the apparent silence of Ga traditional authorities. “But we the Gas, look at how they are treating us,” he added. He urged chiefs to take a more active role, noting that their interventions could carry significant weight.
He cautioned that when chiefs speak, their words should carry far. “So I am really cautioning and appealing that they need to sit up and stand up. At least, when they speak, it goes far,” he said.
The call comes amid growing concern that the demolitions may have displaced traders and disrupted local commerce. The NPP’s appeal seeks to ensure that traditional leaders act as advocates for their communities in the face of government and corporate actions.
