Salaga South MP and Vice Chairperson of Parliament’s Select Committee on Sanitation and Water Resources, Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimah, rejected criticism that the government has not done enough to improve sanitation in Ghana. She responded to remarks made by Bekwai MP and Deputy Ranking Member of the same committee, Ralph Poku‑Adusei, who urged the government to move beyond temporary interventions and provide lasting solutions to the country’s sanitation challenges.
Ibrahimah said it was unfair to claim no improvement had been seen, pointing to several projects completed in local communities. She highlighted the construction of two new toilet facilities in Salaga over the past two years and a 20‑seater water closet facility at Krachi East as evidence that assemblies are actively working to enhance sanitation at the grassroots level.
"So anyone who says that they haven't seen improvement in the sanitation situation, maybe they are living in another world," Ibrahimah said. "There will always be space for improvement. There will always be opportunity to do more, to do even better."
The MP’s comments come amid ongoing debates over the effectiveness of government sanitation initiatives and the need for sustainable infrastructure investment across Ghana.
