In a tightly contested Champions League group match, Borussia Dortmund edged Real Betis 2‑1 at the Signal Iduna Park, ending the Spanish side’s three‑match winning streak in the competition. The first goal came four minutes into the second half when England Under‑21 midfielder Jobe Bellingham’s shot was deflected by Betis goalkeeper Alvaro Valles, but former Wolves striker Fabio Silva capitalised on the rebound to give Dortmund the lead.
Betis fought back in the 67th minute when substitute Aitor Ruibal scored five minutes after coming on, converting a low cross from Abde Ezzalzouli. The equaliser was unmarked at the back post and saw the Spanish side level the score.
Dortmund, currently second in the Bundesliga behind Bayern Munich on goal difference, responded quickly. Bellingham’s diving header forced a brilliant one‑handed save from Valles, and a few minutes later, Silva set up 18‑year‑old Konstantinos Karetsas, who netted his first Champions League goal with a low strike to restore Dortmund’s advantage.
Both teams now have nine points from their first four matches. Dortmund will face 2025‑26 runners‑up Arsenal on Tuesday, 24 November, while Betis will play bottom‑of‑the‑table Slovan Bratislava.
