On Monday, October 26, 2026, Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu addressed the press in Accra, declaring that the sexual abuse case at Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS) would not slip into obscurity. He warned that the scandal would not follow the pattern of other controversies that attract media attention before fading from public discourse.
Iddrisu urged the public to expect a full‑scale investigation and assured that the Ministry of Education would pursue the matter diligently. He added that justice would be seen to have been done, emphasizing the need for all parties to respect due process and let the law take its course.
The case has already sparked national outrage, with 19 students alleging sexual abuse by the school’s headmaster, Zakaria Abdulai. The Ghana Education Service has suspended Abdulai pending investigation, while the Ministry has ordered the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service to probe the allegations. Calls for a wider inquiry into similar misconduct across other educational institutions have also intensified.
