Jonathan McKinsey, the New York Times’ director of engineering for games player experience, was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds in a car park 35 miles west of San Francisco on Saturday afternoon, police said. The victim’s body was located at 15:00 (23:00 GMT) Thursday outside the Dublin Sports Grounds.
Shouyong Zhang and Shili Chen, both 77, are charged with first‑degree murder, felony conspiracy, wilful discharge of a firearm with gross negligence and child endangerment. They were arrested minutes after the shooting and are being held at Santa Rita jail, with a court appearance scheduled for Wednesday.
Witnesses reported hearing a burst of gunshots before seeing McKinsey collapse. “I saw the guy drop to the floor: head bloody and chest bloody,” one observer, Assad Razawi, told KGO‑TV. Another said McKinsey’s daughter noted the couple walking together before the attack.
The New York Times confirmed the death, and police have not released a motive. McKinsey was pronounced dead at the scene.
Legal representation for the accused remains unclear, and they will formally face the charges in court soon.
