NDC Says New NPP Executives Won’t Change Its 2028 Strategy

Deputy Director of Elections Rashid Tanko‑Computer insists the National Democratic Congress remains confident in its own leadership selection and that the NPP’s recent national executive elections will not affect its preparations for the 2028 general elections.

NDC Says New NPP Executives Won’t Change Its 2028 Strategy

Deputy Director of Elections and Information Technology Rashid Tanko‑Computer told a media interview on Saturday, October 3, that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is unfazed by the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) recent national executive elections. The NDC maintains that its organisational structures and leadership selection process are robust enough to keep its 2028 campaign plans on track.

Tanko‑Computer said the NPP had failed to produce the type of national executives he expected, and that the new leadership would not pose a significant challenge to the NDC. He added that the NDC had anticipated a stronger NPP team that could mount a tougher contest in 2028, but the outcome did not meet that expectation.

“They have missed a glorious opportunity to give us a run for our money because the kind of officers I was expecting them to bring, they didn’t. This will not even impact anything due to the way we choose our leaders,” Tanko‑Computer said. He noted that the NDC’s style of selecting leaders, demonstrated in 2022 and again in 2024, remains unchanged.

Comparing the new NPP executives with the NDC’s current national officers, Tanko‑Computer argued that Ghanaians would favour the NDC if presented with a direct choice between the two parties. “Even currently, if you look at the officers that they have elected and our national officers currently, put them side by side and ask Ghanaians to vote for a party that will mean business and that will bring something on the table for them, and they will definitely go for the NDC,” he said.

As the 2028 general elections approach, the NDC remains focused on electing leaders who can advance its agenda, while the NPP’s new executive team is expected to continue shaping its strategy for the upcoming campaign.
