The New Patriotic Party (NPP) will gather more than 7,000 delegates this Saturday at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi for its National Delegates Conference, a key event ahead of the 2028 general election. The conference aims to reinforce the party’s commitment to its presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who won the NPP’s primary in January 2026.
Evans Nimako, the party’s Director of Elections, said the meeting would give NPP members an opportunity to rally behind Bawumia as the party prepares for the next presidential contest. “The essence is that we are going to back our presidential candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, committing him into the 2028 general elections,” Nimako told reporters.
Nimako added that the party’s national officers, once elected, would work with the party’s structures to mobilise support for Bawumia’s candidacy. “The party is together. We are one party. We have one purpose and we are uniting for victory. So that’s the theme for the conference,” he said.
The conference will also consider proposed amendments to portions of the party’s constitution before the election of national officers. The event marks a significant step in the NPP’s internal reorganisation as it gears up for the 2028 polls.
As the NPP prepares to launch its 2028 campaign, the conference underscores the party’s focus on unity and a clear strategy to secure victory in the forthcoming election.
