Members of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) will soon be able to tap into Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) facilities after a meeting between the leadership of the two bodies. President Bessa Simons revealed the arrangement at a forum where MUSIGA members could engage directly with the president and executive team.
Simons said that interested members will be screened by a committee established by MUSIGA to ensure they meet MASLOC’s eligibility criteria. The Union will then recommend those who qualify for tricycle, personal and group loan programmes.
“We will do a critical vetting of our members who will apply for the facilities so that only those with credible standing will be recommended for the facilities. MUSIGA has acquired a lot of experience in our recent past on how to handle these transactions for our members and we are determined to ensure that those who access these facilities have the capacity to repay on time,” Simons added.
Attendees at the forum, dubbed “Time with the MUSIGA President and Executives”, expressed enthusiasm for the support. Highlife songstress Akosua Agyemang urged musicians to join the Union so their voices are heard and their welfare championed. Greater Accra Regional Chairperson Kakra Tagoe also called on members to actively participate in MUSIGA’s work to achieve its objectives for the benefit of all musicians.
With the new partnership, MUSIGA members can now look forward to financial assistance that will give them peace of mind to focus on their music careers.
