Military Begins Demolition at La Beach Amid MP Protest

The Ghanaian military has begun demolishing structures around La Beach, citing an ongoing exercise to clear the area. Military officers have ordered vendors and businesses within the resort to vacate so the operation can proceed.

The move has drawn sharp criticism from the Member of Parliament for La Dadekotopon, Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, who confronted troops on site. Ms Sowah said she had been assured by government officials that the structures would not be demolished and was surprised to see the military carrying out the work.

She also voiced worries about the conduct of the exercise, alleging that soldiers were firing shots and brandishing guns at people present. “What is it, do you want to kill us, what has La done?” she asked, questioning the rationale behind the demolition.

The military has not yet released a detailed explanation of the exercise’s scope or the decision to proceed without prior notice to the MP. The situation remains tense as local businesses and residents await further clarification.
