A 37‑year‑old man, Tibini Atta, was convicted and sentenced to 10 years in prison for defiling an 11‑year‑old girl in Digangan, a farming community in the Kpandai District of the Northern Region on Thursday, September 24, 2026.
The Northern Regional Police Command said the incident occurred when the victim allegedly went to a farm with Atta. Police reported that the suspect had sexual intercourse with the girl, causing injuries that required medical treatment.
The case was reported to the Kpandai Police by the victim’s uncle, Desmond Mulache, 25, a farmer, at about 2:55 p.m. The girl was taken to the Kpandai District Hospital, where she was admitted and treated. Nurses informed investigators that, because of the nature of her injuries, she would be referred to the Tamale Teaching Hospital for further care.
Atta was arraigned before the Gender Circuit Court in Tamale on Friday, September 25, 2026, pleaded guilty, and was convicted and sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment.
Investigators from the Regional Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) in Tamale have visited the victim, who is receiving treatment at the Tamale Teaching Hospital. Police say the victim is responding to treatment and her condition is being closely monitored.
The Police Command will continue to liaise with the hospital and relevant stakeholders to monitor her recovery and provide the necessary support.
