KGL Marathon: Kenyans Win 21km Elite Races, Focus on Mental Health

The 2026 KGL Foundation Millennium Marathon drew a massive crowd to Independence Square in Accra, with runners from across Ghana and abroad lining up for the 21km race.

Kenyan athletes dominated the elite categories, as Alex Korio claimed the men’s title and Lucy Ndambuki set a new course record in the women’s race.

Beyond the finish line, the marathon served as a platform for the Foundation’s Mental Health initiative, featuring the Mental Health Index (MHI), a digital tool aimed at educating Ghanaians about mental wellbeing.

The MHI follows the earlier Corporate Wellness Forum, which introduced a Health & Fitness Index ranking organisations on physical and mental health and community engagement.

Chief Executive Officer Elliot Dadey praised the collaboration, saying,

"So much has gone on behind the scenes from the Millennium Marathon side and from the KGL side and I love how we have been able to come together to make this a success. I'm just super proud of my team and super proud of everyone who has run today,"
he added.

Over the past five years, the KGL Foundation has launched several social projects, including the KGL‑EVE Wellness Centre, the first mental health facility north of Accra, a facelift of the Accra Psychiatric Hospital, the rollout of the Mental Health Index, investment in juvenile football through the KGL U‑17 Championship, and support for the Black Stars.

The 2026 marathon reinforced Ghana’s status as a hub for international road racing while underscoring the importance of physical fitness, mental wellness and community development.
