After the New Patriotic Party’s National Delegates Conference at Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on October 3, Dr Jonathan Asante Otchere took to Channel One Newsroom to critique the political pedigree of the party’s newly elected National Chairman, John Boadu. He said Boadu does not match Johnson Asiedu Nketiah of the National Democratic Congress in terms of pedigree, gravitas and value, and that the comparison would be sharper if Nketiah chose not to contest the NDC’s presidential slot.

“I have nothing personal against the chairman that has been elected. But you will have to contextualise what he’s bringing on board,” the analyst said. He added, “Put the two together and you tell me whether John Boadu comes even halfway in terms of pedigree, in terms of gravitas, in terms of value with respect to Mr Asiedu Nketiah.”

Dr Otchere also questioned whether the factors that led NPP delegates to reject Boadu in previous national executive elections had changed. He argued that Boadu’s election was driven more by internal party dynamics than competence, noting that former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko “annoys the system” and could rival Nketiah in communication and professional pedigree.

Further, the analyst compared the stature of the NPP’s re‑elected General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, with the NDC’s General Secretary, Fifi Kwetey, urging observers to consider these contrasting profiles when assessing the leadership of Ghana’s two major parties.

The debate is set to intensify as both parties prepare for the upcoming presidential primaries, with Boadu’s leadership style and experience under scrutiny.
