On Monday, October 5, Professor Mike Oquaye, former Speaker of Parliament, spoke on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show to commend John Boadu, the newly elected Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Oquaye described Boadu as an “exceptionally gifted political figure” and highlighted his long tenure within the party.
Professor Oquaye noted that Boadu’s knowledge of the NPP’s history and his clear vision for its future make him well suited to lead. He added, “He knows where we came from. He knows where we intend to go. And he has got a clear vision of how to go.”
Oquaye recalled Boadu’s rise through the party ranks—from youth organiser to organiser, then secretary‑general—emphasising that his experience across various roles has given him a deep understanding of the party’s structures and operations. He also remembered Boadu’s contributions during the campaign that brought former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo‑Addo back to power, noting Boadu’s work as both secretary and organiser during that critical period.
While acknowledging that other candidates were also highly qualified, Oquaye said the close contest reflected the strength of the NPP’s internal talent pool. “But that is the NPP for you. We’ve got the sons, we’ve got the daughters,” he added.
As Boadu takes the helm, the NPP looks to build on his experience and vision to steer the party forward.
