GoldBod Poised to Exceed 2025 Foreign Exchange Target

On Tuesday, October 13, 2026, Chief Executive Officer Sammy Gyamfi appeared before Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee to confirm that the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) is on course to exceed its 2025 foreign‑exchange performance benchmark of US$10.8 billion. He added that the institution is also expected to meet or surpass its 2025 gold purchase and export targets.

Gyamfi highlighted that between 80 and 90 per cent of the gold the Board purchases and exports now undergoes refining in Ghana, a shift that is creating jobs and retaining refining fees that would otherwise be paid overseas. He said the 24/7 refineries employ Ghanaians and that the refining fees, which would have gone to export destinations, are now kept within the economy.

The CEO also noted that silver recovered during the refining process is being kept in Ghana, providing raw materials for local fabrication and further contributing to foreign‑exchange generation. He said this by‑product retention is strengthening domestic industrial activity and increasing the economic benefits of gold production.

GoldBod was established to oversee and promote gold trading, particularly purchases and exports from the small‑scale mining sector, while improving foreign‑exchange generation and the value Ghana derives from its gold resources.
