In a ceremony hosted by the General Legal Council in Accra, 1,568 newly qualified lawyers were formally admitted to the Ghana Bar on Friday, October 9, 2026. Among the cohort were two government ministers and four Members of Parliament, marking a notable addition to the legal profession from the political and media spheres.
Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations Samuel Nartey George, who represents Ningo-Prampram, and Minister for Lands and Natural Resources Emmanuel Armah‑Kofi Buah, representing Ellembelle, were among the officials called to the Bar. The other MPs admitted were Davis Ansah Opoku of Mpraeso and Phyllis Naa Koryoo Okunor of Awutu Senya East.

Media personalities also joined the ranks, including JoyNews journalist Ayisha Ibrahim, Richard Kwadwo Nyarko, Channel One TV and Citi FM broadcaster Umaru Sanda Amadu, and TV3 presenter Naa Ashorkor Duodu.

Judicial Secretary Musah Ahmed addressed the new lawyers, emphasizing the transition from legal education to professional practice and the duty to uphold the rule of law with integrity. The ceremony was attended by Chief Justice Paul Baffoe‑Bonnie, Attorney‑General and Minister for Justice Dr Dominic Ayine, and other members of the judiciary.
The call to the Bar represents the formal admission of candidates who have met all entry requirements, adding legal credentials to their existing roles in public service and media.
