Epiroc, a major arm of Asante Gold Chirano Ltd, visited the communities of Kwanikrom and Lawerkrom in the Sefwi Wiawso Municipality of the Western North Region to donate school items to pupils under its Back‑to‑School initiative.
The company has adopted the two basic schools within the catchment of the mine, supporting the annual My First Day at School programme that welcomes students with essential learning materials.
Human Resources Business Partner Rhoda Aboagye said businesses play an important role in creating opportunities for children in the communities where they operate. “Education gives children the knowledge, confidence, and opportunities they need to build a better future. Companies must recognise that supporting local education is an investment in the long‑term development of their host communities,” she said.
Headmistress Mary Armah of Kwanikrom Basic School thanked Epiroc for easing the financial burden on parents, while Linda Owusu Korkor of Lawerkrom Basic School described the support as an encouragement to pupils, teachers and parents.
Environment and Community Relations Superintendent Stephen Gyamprah of AGCL praised the partnership, noting that business involvement strengthens the impact of the My First Day at School programme and shows what can be achieved when companies collaborate to meet community needs.
As the new school year begins, the initiative aims to provide students with the tools they need to succeed, while encouraging other mining firms to follow suit and deepen their educational support in host communities.
