At the 2026 Fetu Afahyɛ Tennis Tournament in Cape Coast, Hill Tennis Club and the Ghana Tennis Federation gathered to honour Professor Bannerman Richter, who turned 94 in 2025 and became Ghana’s oldest active tennis player.
Richter’s presence on the court has long inspired both young and seasoned players, earning him admiration across the tennis community. The club, known as the premier tennis institution in Ghana, has been shaped by his decades of mentorship, patronage, and friendship.
During the tournament’s opening match between Hill Club and McCharty Hill Tennis Club, a banner of the 2026 Fetu Afahyɛ Tennis Tournament fluttered behind the crowd as Richter received a Lifetime Award plaque. Members of Hill Club and the GTF stood beside him, their faces lit with pride and gratitude.
Ghana Tennis Federation officials highlighted that Richter’s contributions extend beyond the Cape Coast; they represent a national legacy of dedication to the sport. His story reminds players that passion has no age limit and that service to the community is the highest honour.
As applause echoed across the grounds, the event underscored that Richter is more than a player – he is a living legacy that will inspire future generations of Ghanaian tennis.
