Sanitation and waste management efforts in Obuasi have received a boost after AngloGold Ashanti's (AGA) Obuasi Mine donated 400 waste bins and two waste collection tricycles worth about GH¢660,000 to the area.

The equipment was handed over to the Obuasi Municipal and Obuasi East Municipal assemblies to help strengthen waste collection, encourage proper disposal habits and cut down on indiscriminate dumping in the twin municipalities.

The donation is part of AGA's Keeping Obuasi Clean Campaign (KOCC), which the company launched in 2019, and ties into its broader 10-year Socio-Economic Development Plan (SEDP) that prioritises sanitation, water and community partnerships as pillars of sustainable development.

AGA's Communications Superintendent, Richard Ansong, said sanitation remains central to the company's community development agenda, and called for continued cooperation between the mine, the assemblies and residents to keep Obuasi clean.
