On Monday, 26 October 2026, FarmYield Ghana and the German Development Agency GIZ signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Bolgatanga to launch the AGROWY initiative, aimed at empowering more than 200 women, young people and farmers in northern Ghana through agricultural mechanisation, practical farming and business development.
Leticia Bopaah, 38, said the training has turned a childhood dream into a source of income for her two children. “Today, operating this tractor and using it to farm my land makes me very happy. My childhood dream has always been to operate one of these, and I thank FarmYield Ghana for training me to operate a big tractor,” she said.

The project, implemented under the Private Sector and Innovation Promotion in Ghana (PSInno) programme commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and carried out by GIZ in partnership with Ghana’s Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, will run until 2028.
Three components will target different groups: the Tractor Training Programme will equip 40 women with tractor operation skills; the One Youth One Acre component will provide practical production, entrepreneurship and market support to 60 young people; and the Farmer‑to‑Business Transformation Programme will strengthen business management for more than 100 farmers.
Yaw Agyare, Board Chairman of FarmYield Ghana, said the goal is to turn training into employment, higher incomes and lasting businesses. “We are not here merely to train. We are here to ensure that training translates into employment, higher incomes and lasting businesses,” he said.

Arlett Stojanovic, Head of Programme for GIZ’s Private Sector and Innovation Promotion programme, highlighted previous successes, noting that 30 women have been trained as tractor operators over the past decade and many remain employed in commercial agriculture. She added, “Sustainable economic development requires strong collaboration between development partners and the private sector. Through our partnership with FarmYield Ghana, we aim to promote inclusive economic growth, strengthen agribusinesses, and create meaningful employment opportunities for women and young people in Northern Ghana.”
By 2028, AGROWY expects to have supported more than 200 beneficiaries, combining skills development with production, business formalisation and market access to improve livelihoods and strengthen the resilience of agricultural enterprises.
