Health Facilities Regulatory Agency Urges Public to Verify Licences Before Seeking Care

The Health Facilities Regulatory Agency (HeFRA) has called on Ghanaians to confirm that health facilities are duly licensed before receiving medical care, citing the danger of expired licences and unapproved services.

HeFRA stresses that patients have a duty to ensure that the premises they visit display the agency’s official identification sticker and the facility’s licence prominently, allowing them to verify regulatory status at a glance.

Deputy Registrar in charge of Operations, Prof. Vida Nyagre Yakong, explained that licensed facilities are legally required to exhibit their licence in the waiting area and that the HeFRA sticker should be the first sign of compliance. She urged patients to look beyond the sticker and inspect the licence itself to confirm its validity.

Prof. Yakong added that the public has the right to ask healthcare providers whether they are licensed to offer specific services and to report any discrepancies. “If you don’t see the licence or the sticker, you have the right to ask, ‘Is your facility licensed by HeFRA to deliver this kind of services?’ and to report if the answer is no,” she said.

HeFRA’s message aims to empower patients to take an active role in ensuring that healthcare providers meet required regulatory standards before entrusting them with their health and well‑being.
