Trump Unveils ‘Super Intelligence Force’ to Oversee AI Policy

On Sunday, President Donald Trump revealed the creation of a new task force, the “Super Intelligence Force,” aimed at ensuring the United States remains a leader in artificial intelligence (AI) and coordinating federal engagement with consumers, public‑interest groups, religious organisations, critical‑infrastructure providers and AI companies. The force will be headed by Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton and will report directly to the president and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles.

Key members include Federal Trade Commission Chair Andrew Ferguson, Undersecretary of Defense for Research and Engineering Emil Michael and Director of the Office of Personnel Management Scott Kupor. The task force will work to oversee AI safety after top tech executives signed a “morally binding” pact to regulate the technology on 29 September.

Trump said the force would also coordinate the federal government’s engagement with the public, following pressure from industry leaders such as OpenAI chief Sam Altman, who argued that AI’s benefits outweigh its risks and should remain accessible. The president has largely dismissed calls for stronger oversight, leaving much regulation to the companies themselves.

In a related move, Trump signed an executive order renaming AI as “super intelligence,” a change that has sparked debate among experts who warn it could cause confusion. The new name has already been adopted by some tech figures, including Elon Musk, who announced he would rename SpaceXAI as SpaceXSI.

The announcement comes as the U.S. government seeks to balance innovation with safety in a rapidly evolving AI landscape. The Super Intelligence Force will be tasked with navigating these challenges while maintaining American leadership in the field.
