The Tarkwa Circuit Court in the Western Region has fined 19‑year‑old Romanus Bangter GH¢7,200 for breaking into a gold buying shop in Wassa‑Nkran on 18 July 2026. Bangter pleaded guilty to unlawful entry and damage and was convicted on his own plea.
Prosecuting Assistant Superintendent of Police Joseph Lartey told the court that the complainant, Mathias Dagwine, is a small‑scale miner and gold buyer who lives in the town. Dagwine’s shop was locked after closing at about 10:00 pm on 17 July, and a witness alerted him at 1:00 am the next morning that thieves had broken in.
The complainant and the unit committee chairman rushed to the scene and discovered Bangter had cut open the metal container and entered the shop to steal. He was arrested and handed over to the Aboso police, where a formal complaint was lodged.
Bangter admitted the offence in his investigation caution statement, led the police to the crime scene, and demonstrated how he carried out the act. If he does not pay the fine, he will serve two years in prison.
