US actor RJ Mitte, best known for his role as the defiant son of drug kingpin Walter White in the Emmy‑winning drama series Breaking Bad, has died at the age of 34 in Brownsville, Texas, on Monday.

His publicist confirmed to Reuters that he took his own life, a fact that has shocked fans and colleagues alike. Mitte, who lived with cerebral palsy, drew on his own experience for the character of Walter “Flynn” White Jr., bringing authenticity and depth to the role.

Actor Bryan Cranston, who played Walter White, paid tribute on Instagram, writing that he was in "deep despair" following the news. "I met him when he was only 14 years old when he was cast as Walter White Jr., a part he played with such joy and enthusiasm," Cranston said. He praised Mitte’s advocacy for performers with disabilities and noted that he never allowed his cerebral palsy to "be an excuse for anything."

Mitte’s representative, Sean Reilly, said in a statement to the BBC that the actor "brought authenticity to the role and built a platform on disability awareness and inclusion." He also served as an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children’s, and founded The Mitte Foundation to challenge stereotypes and promote greater representation for people with disabilities.

Aaron Paul, who played Jesse Pinkman, expressed his heartbreak, writing, "RJ, I love you my friend. You will be missed," and urged readers to remember they are loved and not alone. Dean Norris, who played Hank Schrader, added that Mitte was "a sweetheart of a young man and will be greatly missed."

Mitte’s career began in Louisiana and moved to Los Angeles in 2005 to support his sister’s acting ambitions. He auditioned for the role of Walter White Jr. after an early audition for a California anti‑meth public service announcement. He later appeared in Hannah Montana, Switched at Birth, Westhampton, and the recent film Talking to Strangers.

The news of Mitte’s death has prompted discussions about mental health and the pressures faced by actors, especially those with disabilities. The entertainment community continues to mourn the loss of a talented performer who broke barriers and advocated for greater inclusion.
