Police detained 64 suspects and seized firearms and ammunition during a special operation at a lounge near Achimota Mile 7 in the Greater Accra Region. The raid was carried out by the Office of the Special Operations Assistant to the Inspector‑General of Police in partnership with the National SWAT team, following complaints from local residents about suspected criminal activity in the area. The complaints alleged that firearms were being openly displayed and possibly traded around the lounge.
During the operation, officers seized a blue, unregistered Acura that bore a pistol holster inside. The vehicle was impounded and taken to Police Headquarters for further investigation after no one at the scene claimed ownership of the holster. One suspect, identified as Theophilus Ashon, had posed as a police officer attached to CID Operations. Police confirmed that Ashon was not a member of the force, and a search of his person yielded a Smith & Wesson pistol loaded with six rounds of 9mm ammunition.
Further investigations led officers to Atico, where another suspect, Michael Emmanuel Kingsley Mills, was arrested. A search of Mills’ residence uncovered three pump‑action guns, four pistols, 62 AA and BB cartridges, 54 rounds of .40‑calibre ammunition, and other exhibits. All 64 suspects remain in police custody and are expected to be brought before court.
