Anthony Karbo, Chairperson of the New Patriotic Party’s Organisation Committee, dismissed rumours that the party’s October 3 executive elections in Kumasi would produce candidates tied to flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia. In an interview with Hanson Agyemang, Karbo said the question of who will lead the NPP into the 2028 general elections has already been settled, with Bawumia confirmed as the flagbearer.
Karbo urged delegates to focus on competence rather than proximity to the flagbearer, stating, “There can’t be. There can’t be.” He added that the purpose of the Kumasi meeting is to elect officers who can help realise the 2028 agenda, not to handpick supporters of Bawumia.
The party will elect national officers for roles such as National Chairman, General Secretary, National Organiser, National Women’s Organiser and National Youth Organiser. Karbo emphasised that delegates should judge aspirants on their capacity to deliver the party’s project, not on their relationship with Bawumia.
With the flagbearer already chosen, the NPP now aims to secure executives who can organise the party for the coming election cycle. The national executive elections will take place on October 3, 2026, in Kumasi, with nine categories of national officer positions up for contest.
