The Ashanti Regional Police Command announced that a series of temporary road closures and traffic diversions will be implemented around Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi ahead of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) National Delegates Conference and upcoming elections on Saturday, October 3, 2026.
Superintendent Godwin Ahianyo, Head of the Public Affairs Unit, told reporters that the measures aim to guarantee public safety, effective traffic management and security during the event. The police will close vehicular access to the roads leading to the stadium from Bridginia Traffic Lights to Carvery Methodist Church, from Unity Oil Fuel Station to T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School, and from Is My Kitchen Restaurant to Bridginia Traffic Lights.
To ease movement, diversions will direct commercial vehicles from Amakom straight to Asokwa, vehicles from Asafo towards Asokwa or Amakom Traffic Lights, commercial vehicles from LLL straight to Amakom Traffic Lights, and vehicles from Kumasi City Mall through Bulldog Restaurant to Afful Nkwanta Junction. Traffic from Afful Nkwanta will continue straight towards Kumasi City Mall.
The Command also confirmed that parking arrangements agreed with the NPP Elections Committee will be strictly enforced. The VVIP Car Park is reserved for former Presidents and the NPP Presidential Candidate, while Members of Parliament, former MPs, MMDCEs and CEOs will use the Scoreboard Parking Area. Regional delegates arriving by bus and National Party Executives will park at Heroes Park, and official police vehicles will use the Hockey Pitch.
All delegates and vehicles must be accredited, with only accredited persons and vehicles allowed into designated areas. Motorists are required to display their accreditation prominently and obey officers’ instructions. The police warned against parking in unauthorised areas or attempting to drive through roadblocks.
Motorists will find MTTD personnel at strategic points to direct traffic and enforce the arrangements. Towing trucks are positioned to remove wrongly parked or abandoned vehicles to the KMA yard at the owners’ cost. The Command urged all motorists, delegates, supporters and the general public to plan their journeys in advance, use alternative routes and avoid parking around the event area. It apologized for any inconvenience the temporary arrangements may cause.
