Dr Dramani Bukari Ecomog, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), has reportedly passed away in London.
News of his death emerged on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, with multiple Ghanaian media outlets reporting the development.
A source at the NPA confirmed the death to MyJoyOnline, although details surrounding the circumstances of his passing remain limited. The NPA had not, at the time of publication, issued a detailed official statement explaining the cause of death.
Who was Dr Dramani Bukari?
Dr Bukari was an energy and climate-change specialist with more than 16 years of professional experience spanning sustainable energy, energy policy, research, entrepreneurship and development programmes.
He joined the NPA as a Deputy Chief Executive Officer in 2025, following his appointment alongside Dr Sheila Addo.
Before joining the petroleum downstream regulator, Dr Bukari served as Director of Partnerships, Entrepreneurship and Investments at the Ghana Climate Innovation Centre (GCIC), where he worked on entrepreneurship development, strategic partnerships, investment support, policy research and climate-related initiatives.
He also had experience in academia and international development, including work with De Montfort University in the United Kingdom and SNV.
Academic and professional background
Dr Bukari held a PhD in Sustainable Energy Technologies from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). He also obtained an MSc in Energy Economics from the University of Dundee in Scotland and a bachelor’s degree in Economics.
His professional interests included renewable energy, energy economics, climate change, energy access, mini-grid systems and Ghana’s transition towards sustainable energy.
At the NPA, he was involved in matters concerning Ghana’s downstream petroleum sector, including energy policy, petroleum pricing, market stability and initiatives aimed at strengthening the country’s energy infrastructure.
His work also extended to efforts connected to the development and recovery of strategic petroleum infrastructure, including the Tema Oil Refinery.
