The National Labour Commission (NLC) has asked the Minister of Jobs, Labour and Employment Relations to engage the Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG) regarding its planned November 2 strike over delays in reviewing salaries and related allowances.
In a letter dated October 26, 2026, the Commission asked the Minister to lead discussions with the relevant government stakeholders and engage JUSAG to resolve the issues underlying the intended industrial action.
The intervention follows a notification of industrial action dated October 23, 2026, in which JUSAG warned that it would embark on a strike if the government failed to address its concerns over the review of salaries and related allowances for Judicial Service staff.
The NLC has requested a report on the outcome of the engagement by Friday, November 6, 2026.
Meanwhile, the Commission has advised JUSAG to halt its planned strike in line with Section 161 of the Labour Act, 2003 (Act 651), following its intervention.
The letter, signed by the NLC’s Executive Secretary, Dr Bernice A. Welbeck, was copied to the Office of the President, the Judicial Secretary, the Attorney‑General and Minister for Justice, the Minister of Finance, and JUSAG General Secretary Abdulai Yakubu, among other recipients.
JUSAG had earlier threatened to begin an indefinite strike on November 2 if the government failed to approve the Judicial Council’s 2026 salary review recommendations by the end of October and pay the revised salaries in November, together with arrears from January to October.
