President John Dramani Mahama welcomed Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s re‑election on Sunday, October 25, 2026, and expressed optimism about bolstering ties between the two countries. In a Facebook post, Mahama described Lula’s victory as well‑deserved and said he looked forward to deepening cooperation, noting the historical links that bind Ghana and Brazil.
“Congratulations to President Luiz Lula da Silva on your well‑deserved re‑election as President of Brazil. Brazil and Ghana share a rich history, and I look forward to further strengthening our bilateral relations,” Mahama wrote. He added that through the Accra Reset initiative, the two nations would continue championing the Global South agenda for the betterment of their peoples.
Lula secured 51.79 per cent of valid votes—64,256,232 votes—against challenger Flávio Bolsonaro, who received 48.21 per cent—59,826,041 votes—according to Brazil’s Superior Electoral Court. The 80‑year‑old leader, who first served as president from 2003 to 2010, returned to power in 2023.
Mahama’s message follows Brazil’s presidential runoff, underscoring the growing partnership between Ghana and Brazil as they seek to advance shared interests in the Global South.
