The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has secured a High Court warrant to arrest Manhyia South Member of Parliament, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, over an investigation into alleged unauthorised financial transactions at SIC Life Savings & Loans Company Limited.
Deputy Attorney‑General Dr Justice Srem‑Sai confirmed the court had issued the warrant as part of an inquiry that includes accusations of financial loss, dissipation of public funds and money laundering. The order follows Mr Baffour Awuah’s alleged failure to honour EOCO invitations issued to him since February 2026.
EOCO has also obtained court approval to search for and seize documents deemed relevant to the investigation. The agency said its efforts to secure the MP’s voluntary attendance had been unsuccessful, making the arrest and search orders necessary to advance the probe.
The warrant follows a confrontation at the Accra High Court on September 23 when EOCO officials attempted to arrest the MP, prompting a clash at the court premises.
Mr Baffour Awuah disputes EOCO’s account, arguing the February invitation was issued to him in his former role as Senior Partner of Sarkodie Baffour Awuah & Partners, a firm that represented SIC Life Savings & Loans. He claims a firm representative appeared before EOCO on March 4, March 18 and April 30, providing requested information, including a formal statement.
EOCO maintains the investigation is ongoing and that the arrest warrant was sought after repeated attempts to secure the MP’s attendance failed. The full details of the alleged financial transactions remain undisclosed.
Legal experts note that the warrant allows EOCO to detain Mr Baffour Awuah and conduct further searches, potentially impacting his parliamentary duties and the broader scrutiny of public fund management.
