In a speech in Kumasi, the Interior Minister Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak urged Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to assume greater responsibility for security within their jurisdictions. He said local authorities are best positioned to spot emerging threats and must work closely with police, fire, and intelligence agencies to prevent crime and maintain stability.
“Let’s coordinate and stop the fragmentation,” Muntaka told the High‑Level Training Programme on Ghana’s Security and Intelligence Agencies Act, 2024. “Information sharing is key, and all of us can attest to that.” He praised the Director‑General of the National Signal Bureau for facilitating rapid arrests through coordinated efforts with the CID and other agencies.
The programme, organised to deepen MMDCEs’ understanding of the new legislation, aimed to strengthen collaboration between local governments and Ghana’s security architecture. Muntaka emphasised that early reporting of potential threats and timely intelligence gathering are essential for effective local security management.
Moving forward, the Interior Ministry will monitor the implementation of these calls for greater local involvement and enhanced inter‑agency cooperation.
